Mary J. Blige, also known as The Queen of Hip-hop Soul has been added to the list of celebrity talent that will take part in VH1’s Mother’s Day special, “Dear Mama: An Event to Honor Moms.”

MJB, who is still putting in promotional work for her 13th album, Strength of a Woman, which hit the marketplace on April 28, will honor her mother during the ceremony being held at Pasadena’s Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens in California on May 8. The celebrity line-up also includes Kelly Rowland, Robin Thicke, DJ Khaled, and Maxwell with La La Anthony and Anthony Anderson serving as host.

Ahead of her appearance on the annual special, more Mary is on the way! On May 2, the award-winning artist will invite friends, family and fans into the makings of her most recent project with a documentary.

Strength of A Woman: An Album Documentary is said to offer an insider’s look at the creative process behind Blige’s album.

During a candid interview with 105.1’s Angie Martinez, Blige spoke about her recent divorce filing from Kendu Isaacs and how it served as a great deal of inspiration behind Strength of a Woman.

“I needed that. I needed to be somewhere other than home thinking about all of this foolish. I needed to be some where I could vent and express myself and use my own music as therapy. I needed that love.”
