Ava DuVernay has a great relationship with Netflix, bringing her next major project to the streaming service in the form of new limited series, Central Park Five.

The series centers on the 1989 attack involving five Harlem teens who were convicted of raping a late-night jogger.  In 2014, Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana and Korey Wise had the false conviction overturned, according to Deadline.

The Wire actor Michael K. Williams is set to portray Bobby McCray, the father of Antron. Stand-up ad Tony Award winner John Leguizamo has signed on as Raymond Santana Sr., father of another one of the falsely accused boys of color.

DuVernay told The Hollywood Reporter, “I had an extraordinary experience working with Netflix on 13th and am overjoyed to continue this exploration of the criminal justice system as a narrative project with Cindy Holland and the team there. The story of the men known as the Central Park Five has riveted me for more than two decades. In their journey, we witness five innocent young men of color who were met with injustice at every turn — from coerced confessions to unjust incarceration to public calls for their execution by the man who would go on to be the president of the United States.”

The limited series is currently in production in NYC.
