Tina Lawson said that she put daughters Beyoncé and Solange in counseling when they were younger because of Bey’s increasing success.

Lawson sat down with Maria Shriver on Friday and said when she was a child she felt her mother preferred her brother over her.

“I felt like my mother liked my brother more. I was really sensitive to it,” she said. “I took off from work and that was Solange’s day and she was a lot younger than Beyoncé. It was tough because she was five years old and Beyoncé was this little superstar in our city.”

She said that she took them to a therapist at a younger age so the “Formation” singer could be more sensitive to her little sister, which was met with pushback from her family.

“My family was like, ‘you’re going to make them crazy because they’re too young for you take them,'” Lawson said. “I wanted Beyoncé to be sensitive to the fact that Solange had to deal with being a little bit in her shadow. It made her way more protective and they’re still fiercely protective of each other.”
