Muhammad Ali was one of the most fascinating people to ever grace this planet. His riddled use of verbiage, quick feet and knock-out hands gained national recognition as the greatest fighter of all time. It is without doubt that his professional career as a boxer lit up the world, but it was the man behind the gloves that truly spoke volumes.

His unapologetic Blackness and dedication to the liberation of our people, love for humanity, and his unwavering passion for equality and upward Black mobility in the social and political climate, were among the reasons “The GOAT” was loved by so many.

EBONY and JET have documented the life and times of Muhammad Ali since his days of winning titles as Cassius Clay on through his conversion to Islam, acting career and his heartfelt passing in 2016.

Muhammad Ali has and will always be a giant. And for that reason, though, there have been countless documentaries and films highlighting his life – wins and losses – there will never be a complaint when adding another to the list.

That project is actually on the way and coming from LeBron James and Antoine Fuqua. The two have joined forces with HBO to produce an untitled multi-part documentary about the life and career of Ali.

“It’s tough to put into words how much it means to be a part of this project honoring the legacy and telling the extremely important story of the great Muhammad Ali,” James said in a statement. “He transcended sports and used his platform to empower people, which paved the way for all athletes and people of every race and gender that came after him, myself included.”

An added bonus to this project is that Ali’s family members are in full support of telling of his story. The HBO special will include intimate moments via pictures and footage from the family’s private collections. It will also combine archival footage and cinematic reactions that will make viewers feel as if they’re right inside the ring or at home with Ali.

“Being given the opportunity to tell his story, both inside and outside of the ring, is a privilege and a dream come true,” Fuqua stated. “I couldn’t have found better partners than LeBron and HBO to help memoralize “The Greatest of All Time.”
