Ne-Yo has been one of the few R&B singers able to create a successful acting career without compromising his original passion. Most recently seen on "Red Tails" and "Battle: Los Angeles," the "Miss Independent" singer was apparently sought out for a role as Martin Luther King, Jr. in an upcoming film. However, he turned down the part because it required him to gain 30 pounds. The weight gain would apparently get in the way of his new album release and the image he intends to project.

"They wanted to start shooting at the time my album R.E.D. comes out and wanted me to gain 30 pounds, so I couldn't do it," he admitted. "I'm kicking myself but acting can't take the place of my music. Plus, I've been killing myself in the gym for months preparing for this album because I wanted a complete makeover." Despite his success on the silver screen, Ne-Yo seems to be committed to his first love, a trait that his fans will undoubtedly appreciate. "I definitely want to do more acting but it's got to make sense with the music," Ne-Yo said.
