Fox is currently developing not one but two new series from acclaimed director Lee Daniels. The network is already home to the Oscar- nominated filmmaker’s hit shows Empire and Star, with his latest projects moving away from the music business and into new territory.

Written and executive produced by Julian Breece, Victory is set in the world of competitive gospel choirs and tells the inspirational story of a prodigal son and a group of forgotten young people who must rise above their personal hardships to save a church and heal a broken community through the power of song, according to Deadline.

East of Hope, described as a “multi-racial soap opera,” centers around two families divided by a past event and reconnected by blood. Both tie their hopes and dreams to the high school basketball team, which they see as their ticket to a better life.

Peter Mattei will write and executive produce, with Daniels and Marc Velez also executive producing. Most recently, Mattei created the WGN America drama series Outsiders.

Both projects are being produced under the Lee Daniels Entertainment banner.
