Nicki Minaj is a proud Trini girl who reps her Caribbean heritage every chance she gets. Like many, she was affected by images of her fellow Trinidadians suffering after residents were trapped by massive flooding across parts of East, Central and Southwest Trinidad, as well as parts of Tobago.

Soon after learning of the disaster, the “Coco Chanel” MC took to social media to show support to her birth country, vowing to provide financial support for those still living through the devastation. Minaj also shared that she teamed up with soca star Fay Ann Lyons to provide aid.

“Trinidad, I am working on getting many different resources to you now. Fay-Ann & I have been communicating non-stop. I will let you know exactly who I’m donating the funds to & hope to be with you very soon. I Love you. We will get through this.”

Fay Ann went on to thank Minaj for her support and for not forgetting where she came from.

“Thank you @nickiminaj for the deep concern for your fellow Trinis. We know your love for home is real and you staying in contact daily shows it. We are definitely appreciating your generosity. We had a great walkabout today, and both @bunjigarlin and I are 100 percent with you. #Queen #Trinidad.”
