Before President Donald Trump signed an executive order to stop the separation of families at the U.S. and Mexican border, Nicki Minaj shared an emotional message Wednesday about coming to the States as an undocumented immigrant at the age of 5.

“I came to this country as an illegal immigrant,” the rapper wrote on Instagram, under a photo an alleged tender age shelter, where young children separated from their families at the border were reportedly being detained in cages.

“I can’t imagine the horror of being in a strange place & having my parents stripped away from me at the age of 5,” she continued. “This is so scary to me. Please stop this. Can you try to imagine the terror & panic these kids feel right now? Not knowing if their parents are dead or alive, if they’ll ever see them again.”

Minaj, 35, was born Onika Tanya Maraj in Saint James, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. In the late ’80s, she moved to Queens, New York with her family, where she was raised and attended LaGuardia High School.

There were reports of infants being taken away from there parents. Up until the signing of the executive order the Trump administration had a zero-tolerance policy and said they had no choice but to separate the families due to the law.
