No Good Deed performed one monumental task this weekend, injecting new adrenaline into the box office as it took the top spot. The thriller starring Idris Elba and Taraji P. Henson pushed ahead of the summer's reigning box-office champion Guardians of the Galaxy with $24.5 million in its opening weekend, according to studio estimates from box-office firm Rentrak.

"No Good Deed represented brand-new entertainment with the perfect release date, two big stars and a great social-media marketing campaign," says Paul Dergarabedian, Rentrak senior box office analyst. "It came on strong Friday and never let up."
