EBONY spoke with co-stars Steven Yeun, Omari Hardwick and Terry Crews during the Los Angeles screening of their film Sorry to Bother You on June 19 about family and surviving on the road to Hollywood stardom.

Hardwick revealed that when he and his wife, Jennifer Pfautch, lost a baby, it was Crews and his wife, Rebecca, who helped them repair their strained relationship. “Terry actually said, ‘Man! You can’t leave that girl.’ He grabbed me so hard,” the Power star said as the trio broke out in laughter.

Playing off the nostalgia, Crews became emotional recalling his move to California with his family after a failed NFL career and being unable to afford pizza. And Yeun shared a brief glimpse of what it was like as an Asian kid growing up in “rural, White-dominated Michigan” with the desire to emulate Whiteness.

The Boots Riley-directed film opens in theaters on June 29.
