Just days after the cancelation of Rosie O’Donnell’s short-lived talk show, Oprah Winfrey announced on Monday that she will be cutting one-fifth of the staff at her OWN network. "As CEO, I have a responsibility to chart the course for long-term success for the network. To wholly achieve that long-term success, this was a necessary next step,” Winfrey said.

The channel got a boost earlier this month with Winfrey’s exclusive interview with Whitney Houston's daughter Bobbi Kristina, generating 3.5 million viewers, but overall the network's programming has been underwhelming. Executives plan to restructure operations in New York and Los Angeles and hope “Oprah’s Life Class” and the reality series “Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s” will boost ratings next season.
