Donald Trump is officially the 45th president of the United States, and for many Black Americans, that fact is alarming. Just today we’ve seen Trump’s team scrub mentions on civil rights, climate change, and healthcare from the official White House website, while adding in positions on an “America First Energy Plan” and “Standing Up for Our Law Enforcement Community.” For many, the move signals some very difficult times for communities of color over the next four years, but others are gearing up for a fight.
Thursday night in Washington, D.C., Busboys and Poets held the Peace Ball, an event to pushback against Trump’s divisive narrative while encouraging action.
During the event, EBONY spoke with several attendees, including activist and actor Danny Glover, poet Sonia Sanchez, and hip-hop scholar Rev.Rev. Lennox Yearwood, Jr., each offered their advice on what our communities should do now that Trump is in office.
