Much has been discussed about the lack of diversity in front of the camera, but the hiring done behind the camera is just as important. Basically, television industry veteran Pearlena Igbokwe's new job at NBC as executive vice president of drama development is a big deal. A very big deal. The former Showtime creative executive will be overseeing the development of all the network's dramas, as announced by the president of NBC Entertainment Jennifer Salke.

“Pearlena has forged an impressive track record over her successful career that has earned her the admiration of the creative community,” said Salke, to whom Igbokwe will now report. “She will bring a unique perspective to development that will help us reach our goal of once again making NBC the home of some of the best and most respected dramas on television.”

Having been in the television business for years now, Igbokwe has extensive  experience working on several highly-rated, Emmy award-winning shows such as "The Big C," "Nurse Jackie," and the NAACP award-winning series "Soul Food." The new position should prove to be very demanding, yet manageable for Igbokwe, who got her start in television at Showtime where she worked as manager of direct response, television marketing. She has also received a number of professional accolades, including features in The Hollywood Reporter, Black Enterprise, and EBONY's list of top industry power players.
