When Fox rolls out its latest series, Pitch, Thursday night it’ll be making history. In addition to starring a woman of color, the show is the first series officially sanctioned by Major League Baseball.

Pitch stars Kylie Bunbury as Ginny Baker, a pitcher who finds herself in the middle of a media frenzy when she’s called up from the minor leagues to start in her first major league game.

While Ginny must prove herself as a rookie, she also had the added pressure of being the first women to play with men on the world’s biggest stage.

Ginny’s skills are immediately questioned by her teammates, but her dedication to her dream—something her father drilled into her head as a little girl—keeps her motivated.

Will she crack under the hot lights? It remains to be seen, but Bunbury, whose father and brother are professional athletes, says her character is up for the task.

Recently, Bunbury and co-star Mark-Paul Gosselaar spoke with EBONY.com about Pitch, and what it’s like to make television history.

Pitch airs Thursdays at 9pm on FOX.
