VP Records artist Queen Ifrica is using her voice to empower and encourage Black women on Women’s Equality Day with an EBONY.com exclusive premiere of her Black Woman video.

The Jason Panton-directed visual was filmed in Jamaica, the reggae artist’s birthplace, and features Black women and girls from all walks of life, including Emprezz GoldingKamila McDonald and Naomi Cowan.

In a statement, the singer and social activist explained her decision to uplift her Black sisters.

My reason for doing ‘Black Woman’ is the mere fact that women today are stepping up and becoming more stronger in themselves. Whenever we see that Black women are behind, it is because she is left behind. ‘Women’s Equality Day’ is a day to reflect on being a woman and our worth, purpose and what she is about in this space. It’s a day to remember to acknowledge that we sisters carry a lot and we do it with grace, so we deserve the same recognition as our male counterparts.

With the release of the song and video, the 43-year-old artist hopes to add positive imagery to the increasing representation of Black women from the strong and intellectual female cast of Black Panther to the 16 Black women gracing the covers of September magazine issues this year.

“Black Woman” is featured on Queen Ifrica’s latest album, Climb.
