We have a feeling you weren’t wondering this, but just in case you were… Rachel Dolezal wants the world to know that she is perfectly fine and is happy with her identity choices. She made this announcement on The Today Show, where she announced her plans to publish a book about identity.

“I don’t have any regrets about how I identify,” the former NAACP chapter president said. “I’m still me and nothing about that has changed.”

In an interview with Savannah Guthrie, Dolezal discussed the premise for her work. The book is as yet untitled but will likely discuss how, exactly Dolezal’s socio-political identity came to be.  Whatever she writes, it’s sure to be controversial. The Spokane, Wash. activist made headlines in the summer of 2015 after she was outed as a White woman pretending to be black.  She became the butt of jokes and the focus of many academically-minded discussions on racial identity and politics.

“I’ve heard a lot of stories from people around the world about their lives being somehow caught between boundary lines of race or culture or ethnicity. [It’s about] this larger issue of if you don’t fit into one box and if you don’t stay there your whole life, being identified from birth as who you are — what does that look like?” Dolezal told Guthrie. “Race didn’t create racism, but racism created race.”

The internet, as usual, had fun with this. Many people started tweeting about what Dolezal would be saying at her TEDtalk. Jokes aside, it would not be surprising if she was tapped to speak at such an event. Whether you agree with her politics or not, her path is quite fascinating.
