On February 23, the world will have the chance to own remastered vinyl editions of a few of soul icon Isaac Hayes’ classic albums.

Courtesy of Craft Recordings, Hot Buttered Soul, Black Moses and Shaft will all feature audio remastered by lead engineer Dave Cooley. According to a press release from the label, the remastered versions “come housed in a faithfully reproduced package, complete with old-school style tip-on jacket.”

“The release [of the albums] comes at the heels of a year-long celebration of the 60th anniversary of Stax Records, and a historic look at the contributions made by Hayes to the success of the label,” the press release states.

At the time of its original release in 1969, Hot Buttered Soul reached No. 1 on the Billboard Soul/R&B chart. The album is described as a “transformative genre-bending soul record that changed the shape of popular music forever.”

Shaft achieved both critical and commercial acclaim, and it “remains Isaac Hayes’ best-known and best-selling LP released by Stax Records. It won Hayes multiple Grammy Awards in 1972.” The title song from the popular film of the same name also garnered Hayes a Best Original Song Oscar in 1972.

The press release goes on to describe Black Moses as an “ambitiously artistic follow-up to  Shaft.”  The album reached No. 1 on the Billboard Soul/R&B chart in 1972 and, arguably, remains relevant today.
