Donald Glover is reportedly on the short list to play Willy Wonka in a remake of Charlie & The Chocolate Factory commissioned by Warner Bros., according to Collider.

Willy Wonka is the quirky confectionary owner in the novel written by Roald Dahl that has been relived on screen portrayed by Gene Wilder in 1971 and most recently by Johnny Depp in 2005. Other actors on the shortlist contending for the part include Justice League star Ezra Miller and La La Land star Ryan Gosling.

The film will be directed by Paul King, written by Simon Rich and produced by David Heyman. It will allegedly be a prequel to Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory,  in which the origins of the chocolate maker are explored.

The role would be another huge win for the Atlanta star, who recently starred in Solo: A Star Wars Story as Lando Calrissian. It would also be a nod to Hollywood’s attempt to present more diversity onscreen.
