NFL owners may consider penalizing teams if players kneel during the national anthem, according to Sports Illustrated.

Team owners met on Tuesday to address sensitive topics within the league and one idea that was brought up would allow 15-yard penalties to be given out if a player kneels.

The home team would decide if both teams come out of the locker room during “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Kneeling during the national anthem has been a source of controversy for almost two years since former San Francisco 49er quarterback Colin Kaepernick kneeled during the anthem to protest racial injustice.

Kaepernick, alongside free agent Eric Reed, is suing the NFL for conspiring to keep them unemployed after they both got down on one knee before scheduled games.
