A few NFL players are considering sitting out the season unless former San Francisco 49ers players, Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid, are given contracts, Shaun King announced on Tuesday.

King says that players are weighing the option not to play this season and are aiming to get 25 percent of the NFL roster to sit out with them.

This latest development comes after the NFL announced a new policy where players have to stand for the national anthem if they are to be on the field, if they don’t teams would face penalties.

Players have the option to stay in the locker room during the anthem, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced last week.

Kaepernick was let go during the 2016 NFL season after he knelt during the “Star-Spangled Banner” to protest the treatment of African-Americans in the country by the hands of the police.

Reid joined Kaepernick in his protest and was let go in 2017.

Both have filed grievances against the League stating that team owners colluded against them to keep them unemployed.
