Ryan Michelle Bathe is set to join singer Jill Scott and comedian Michelle Buteau as the third leading lady in Paramount Network’s First Wives Club dramedy based on the 1996 film, according to Deadline. Bathe is known for her roles on Empire, This Is Us and Boston Legal. She is also married to Emmy-winning actor Sterling K. Brown.

Deadline describes Bathe’s character as “a confident, type-A attorney with impeccable style and not a single of strand of hair out of place. She was on track to make partner but sidestepped her career to advance her husband’s political ambitions and raise their two kids. When a crisis reunites her with her best friends from college, she is able to translate her kick-ass courtroom skills to help them reclaim their independence and rekindle the camaraderie (and fun) of their college glory days.”

Scott will play Hazel, a music superstar who has been silenced by her unfaithful husband and manager. Buteau, a stand-up best known for supporting roles on Comedy Central’s Key & Peele and Broad City, will play overworked doctor Bree, who discovers her husband is cheating.

Originally starring Diane Keaton, Bette Midler and Goldie Hawn, First Wives Club will be adapted into 10 half-hour episodes for Paramount Television.
