If you’ve never heard of Sampha, the singer, songwriter and producer, just know your favorite musical artist is probably a fan. The South London native is featured on Solange Knowles‘ critically acclaimed project, A Seat at the Table, on Drake’s latest album, More Life, and he recently released his debut album, Process. Oh, and Yeezy, loves him too.

Sampha’s music can be described as beautifully introspective and vulnerable, and his soulful sound is experimental, incorporating dance, R&B and electronica to create something unique.

While working on Process, Sampha’s mother passed away and he used the project to grieve.

“My mother passed away while I was making the album, and by the time I finished it, she was gone,” he told Exclaim. “When I realized I wouldn’t be able to talk about something, I’d go to the piano and sing, and all this emotion would come out; I could suddenly feel it. In my day-to-day, I think my brain would hide things away, because it can’t handle or process so much emotion simultaneously, so for me it was that: processing grief, processing the importance of talking things through – not necessarily getting things perfect.”

The musician has won over a slew of fans–both celebs and non-celeb alike–and the folks over at NPR invited the British singer to give a Tiny Desk Concert and share a stripped down version of his music.

During his set, Sampha reminisced about his mother and performed three songs–“Plastic 100°C,” “(No One Knows Me) Like the Piano,” and “Blood On Me.” And it was the best thing on the Internet today.
