Business mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs is an icon in the music industry, and he has discovered and managed talent that has gone on to find success.

The Four judge says finding talent is easier in the social media era than it used to be because of the different tools people have at their disposal.

“Due to social media, you have access to so much,” Diddy tells EBONY’s Reina Brown. “[Because of] the platforms, you can tell what’s hot just by searching. It gives you the opportunity to have a connection with aspiring artists [who] maybe live in different parts of the world you wouldn’t normally be able to have a relationship with.”

The entrepreneur says people wanting to make it in the music industry years ago had to be hungry for the chance, and he sees a difference with today’s artists.

“Back in the day if you [weren’t] really about it, you’d never make it because you would have to do so much to get to that point,” he explains. “You have to press the “send” button now. It is a little different on the level of appreciation.”

The season finale of The Four airs Thursday at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
