Tonight (July 10), SummerStage heads to Central Park with the legendary improv troupe, Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) and joining them will be UCB and Saturday Night Live (SNL) alum Sasheer Zamata.

The night of comedy is set to begin at 8 p.m. and run through 10 p.m. ET. Those who get to Central Park to catch the pre-show panel, “Only in New York: Funny Women,” will get to see a chat between, Sarah Maslin Nir, Shannon O’Neill, and Aparna Nancherla.

This past May, Zamata exited SNL after four seasons on the series. She did not speak about her departure at the time, but, many speculated that she wasn’t given the correct material to showcase her talents. Before her SNL exit, the 31- year old comedian was lighting up the big screen in J.D. Dillard’s Sleight and Netflix’s Deidra & Laney Rob a Train.

Recently, Zamata sat down with Bustle to chat about what she learned from her early days in comedy and how she found her voice. “At first, I was just trying to write down things that I thought were funny. I wrote some jokes that were fine, but they weren’t personal in the least bit. Instead, they were just pretty observational, like ‘isn’t it funny when this thing happens’ as opposed to ‘isn’t it funny when this thing happens to me?'” She continued, “So, that was was really exciting for me, to go through this journey of trying to get what I think is funny out of my head and into the audience’s brains. I still do act-outs and more performative kinds of deliveries on my material and a little bit of storytelling. But now I love it. Because I know it makes me unique.”
