While SZA’s voice is on the mend, she managed to muster up a few beautiful melodies for Columbia High School, as the TDE songstress performed and shared words of wisdom.

The “Broken Clocks” artist, real name Solana Imani Rowe, paid a trip to her old Maplewood, New Jersey stomping grounds Monday, June 4, where the 27-year-old was inducted into the school’s hall of fame. She later sung slow jam, “The Weekend,” and addressed the students ten years her junior. Rowe graduated from Columbia in 2008, according to Pitchfork.

“Design your own world right now… It starts with trusting yourself, even if people are telling you you’re too young to trust yourself,” she told the crowd. “Find the details and the inner workings of yourself.”

SZA also showed love to her favorite art teacher and revealed that she skipped prom because she wasn’t popular enough to get a date.
