Actor Cory Bowles makes his full-length directorial debut with the Canadian drama Black Cop. It is a feature film that follows a day in the life of a Black police officer (Ronnie Rowe Jr.) as he takes justice into his own hands. The Black cop who is often called a sellout in his community becomes exhausted with seeing the systemic oppression of Black people. He decides to turn the hands of the violent abuse of power around on the white oppressor and goes rogue in the community he polices.

The political satire premiered at the 2017 Toronto Film Festival. The TIFF website regards the movie as “a thoughtful and energizing satire, a powerful confrontation to the status quo, and an embodiment of film as the ultimate agent of conversation.”
