The trailer for Netflix’s biopic centered on the first female rapper to have a hit single, Roxanne Shanté, has finally been released.

On Thursday, Netflix released a preview of the film, which depicts the life of the artist during her upbringing in New York City’s Queensbridge Projects and coming of age as a rapper.

Shadow and Act reports up-and-coming actress Chanté Adams plays the New York rapper in the film. Adams is in good company in her breakout role. Oscar-winning Moonlight actor Mahershali Ali and veteran actress Nia Long will also star in the Forest Whitaker- and Nina Yang Bongiovi-produced film. Critics were so impressed by the Adams’ portrayal of Shanté when it premiered at the Sundance Festival last year, the actress earned a Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Performance.
