It seems like young viewers will not have to choose between watching the MTV Video Music Awards or tuning into President Barack Obama's speech at the Democratic National Convention this Thursday. The music network has decided to bump up the airing of the event by one hour to 8pm. The award show will run for two hours, ending just in time for President Obama's speech at 10pm.

Having sacrificed the hour following the show, the network will not be premiering any new series during that time slot as it has often done in previous years. Last year's VMA show raked in an impressive 12.4 million viewers and made headlines internationally when Beyonce took to the stage to announce her pregnancy at the end of her performance.
