Washington, D.C. native Wale recently held a fan Q&A via Twitter, where he answered many questions concerning his music and time in the industry. During the discussion, one supporter questioned if the outspoken lyricist believes his “expressive” nature has stopped him from being mentioned among the best of his peers.

“Do you think your expressive passion for the music hurt/prevent you from being mentioned with the rest in your class?” the fan asked, with the Ambition rapper agreeing his past outbursts “hurt” him. He also added that him being “a dark skinned (not half white) rapper direct decent from Africa,” hurt his career as well.

Do you believe colorism has played a role in Wale’s career?
