The Hood Internet’s YouTube channel put together a video that condenses 40 years of hip-hop in just four minutes, and it’s the best thing you’ll see all day. With more than 150 tracks and over 100 artists, the video stretches back into the past during the very early days of the genre and moves forward into the current day. The stunning video does not give a chronological assessment of hip-hop. Instead, The Hood Internet chose to include some of the most influential and celebrated artists of all time. From Snoop Dogg to Jay Z, nearly everyone who has contributed to the industry in a major way is represented.
The producers of the video explain that they chose to take artists “from different eras finishing each other’s rhymes over intersecting beats, all woven together to make one song.” If you’re a hip-hop head or you simply enjoy the genre, then you’ll definitely have a blast trying to identify each artist and individual track in the video.
