Life comes at you fast. That’s what the folks over at HBO learned when they unveiled their plans for an alt-history series Confederate where slavery is a modern-day institution. Despite a massive social media protest, HBO and Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss haven’t backed away from the project.

Today, new fuel was added to an already blazing fire. Proflic producer Will Packer and Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder announced their plans for Black America. The series will debut on Amazon and will follow newly freed Black Americans who have secured Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama post-Reconstruction as reparations for slavery. Lit right?!

With their newfound freedom, the formerly enslaved people shape, New Colonia which serves as both an ally and adversary to the United States over the next 150 years.

“I was immediately enthralled by the idea; I couldn’t stop thinking about it and what a provocative and bold piece of content it could be,” Packer said in a statement to Deadline. “Being a fan of Aaron, I thought he definitely had the right tone, the right voice, the right wit to handle a project like this. Aaron and I sat together and talked about what a huge opportunity and responsibility it would be to do this project and do it right.” Black America “will speak to where we are now and the mistakes this country has made and things we should do going forward,” Packer added.

There’s no word yet on a release date for Black America, but with all of the hoopla surrounding Confederate, we can assume that we’ll be seeing it sooner rather than later.
