The Grammys 2018 just wrapped up and let’s just say, it was dripped up and draped down in Black Folks winning (despite Jay-Z’s questionable snub, however, the Roc Nation founder and rapper still took home the Industry Icon Award!)
From the red carpet to the powerful performances, check out five ways the culture killed it at 60th Annual Grammy Awards.
1. The Winners:
“Finesse” and “24 Karat” singer Bruno Mars pretty much won the night by not taking home three of the four “General Category” awards (along with a few R&B central awards too), including “Album of the Year,” “Song of the Year,” and “Record of the Year.” Oh, and the R&B category? He pretty much owned that too. In total — Bruno took home 6 out of the 6 awards he was nominated for. Pretty impressive considering that he was up against the greats in all genres of music.
Kendrick Lamar also took home four out of the seven awards he was nominated for, including Best Rap Album of the Year for DAMN. and Best Rap Song for “Loyalty.” Also, comedian Dave Chappelle, in all his comeback-comedic glory, won an award as well. Yes!!
2. The Performances:
Talk about grand opening, grand closing! Kendrick Lamar was sure to open up the awards ceremony and needless to say, he ripped it. Following Kendrick, from the start of the show, to the end, we saw a number of amazing hip hop and R&B performances, including: Bruno Mars and Cardi B slaying “Finesse,” Rihanna and Khalid and Bryson with “Wild Thoughts,” SZA, Childish Gambino, rapper Logic an many more.
Check out a few acts below:

3. The Message:
Rapper Logic performed alongside singers Khalid and Alessia Cara to perform his song “1-800-273-8255,” which name derives from the number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Logic’s song not only touched on depression, abuse, etc., but during his performance, he also told immigrants “You are not sh”tholes,” (per Trump’s Haitian slander), and was one of many that evening to address the ongoing issues with DACA and immigration protection and reformation in America. Logic also addressed racism and stood by women and the recent #MeToo movement, saying:
“Black is beautiful, hate is ugly. Women are as precious as they are stronger than any man I have ever met. And unto them, I say stand tall and crush all predators under the weight of your heart that is full of the love they will never take away from you. Be not scared to use your voice, especially in instances like these when you have the opportunity.”

The Guests of Honor’s Guest of Honor:
I mean, let’s just say it was a family affair, and we were not only fans of the guests of honors, but fans of their family too! SZA brought both her mother and grandmother as her dates (theee generations of #MelaninMagic), while rapper Cardi B. brought little sister and best friend, Hennessy Carolina, as her date. Not to mention, we can’t forget DJ Khaled and 1-ear-old son Ashad matching in their red tuxes, and of course, Jay-Z and Beyonce bringing six-year-old daughter Blue Ivy (who, by the way, had the cutest pair of heels on). Where does the time go?
