ABC Approves ‘Roseanne’ Spin-Off Without Roseanne Barr

Anyone concerned for the cast and crew of Roseanne losing their jobs because of leading lady Roseanne Barr should find relief in knowing ABC has approved 10 episodes of a spin-off sans the controversial comic.

The initial reboot of Roseanne was cancelled following Barr describing former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett in a racist and Islamophobic manner, calling her the product of the “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes.”

It’s new spin-off, tentatively titled The Conners, will star original cast members John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman, according to THR.

“The new take, which will also be a multicamera comedy and premiere in the fall, will follow the Conner family who, after a sudden turn of events, are forced to face the daily struggles of life in Lanford in a way they never have before.”

Goodman, Metcalf, Gilbert, Goranson and Fishman said in a joint statement:

“We have received a tremendous amount of support from fans of our show, and it’s clear that these characters not only have a place in our hearts, but in the hearts and homes of our audience. We all came back last season because we wanted to tell stories about the challenges facing a working-class family today. We are so happy to have the opportunity to return with the cast and crew to continue to share those stories through love and laughter.”
