An Inside Look at Black-ish

The Cosby Show. The Jeffersons. Family Matters. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. My Wife and Kids. The list of sitcoms featuring Black families is cherished for highlighting this crucial unit in a positive light.

But in recent times, and after the departures of The Bernie Mac Show and the underrated Everybody Hates Chris, we have been hard-pressed to see this critical unit in prime time outside of the reality television realm.

Enter black-ish.

ABC’s latest acquisition centers on a modern and affluent brown family and their journey to attain the American dream while still holding on to their cultural identity. Starring Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Laurence Fishburne and created by Kenya Barris (The Game, America’s Next Top Model), black-ish is primarily based on Barris’ personal experiences.
