Angela Rye has no problem speaking her mind and standing up for people of color who often feel overlooked, and she’ll soon be sharing her political savvy with the BET audience.
The EBONY Power 100 presenter is set to host and executive produce a quarterly news show for the network, which is poised to dig deep into issues and stories affecting Black America, according to Blavity.
“Working with BET always provides a reminder of why I began to do this work,” Rye said in a statement to the site. “It is essential that we have platforms where we can discuss our politics, our challenges, and our culture through our respective lenses. The upcoming special will provide a glimpse of what’s to come with our partnership.”
The first episode of the series is tentatively titled “Angela Rye’s State of the Union,” which will be a primetime rebuttal to President Trump’s State of the Union address airing Wednesday, January 31 at 10PM PT.
Rye joins late-night host Robin Thede and journalist Marc Lamont Hill at BET, with the professor welcoming his fellow talking-head to the network.
“I am proud to help deliver the programming,” Hill, who has renewed his contract with the network, said in a statement to Blavity. ”I am also excited to be joined by my brilliant colleague Angela Rye, who will make our team stronger than ever.”
