Ann Curry Announces Departure

Ann Curry

Rumors had been swirling before NBC's "Today Show" co-host, Ann Curry announced her departure on Thursday. The multi-racial veteran journalist first appeared on the morning show with Matt Lauer 15 years ago and slowly blended into the role of a cheering weekday anchor. “For all of you, who saw me as a groundbreaker, I’m sorry I couldn’t carry the ball over the finish line,” she said in her emotional speech.

As Curry made her announcement, it seemed obvious that this was not her decision, but did seem knowledgeable about the impending change. It is rumored that branding and public reception may have had something to do with her being cut and it is widely expected that Savannah Guthrie, NBC's chief legal analyst, will take her spot. Luckily Curry will not be going far– she has a multiyear contract with NBC to lead a seven-person unit as their National and International Correspondent/Anchor. She will also produce network specials for "NBC Nightly News," "Dateline," "Rock Center," and will fill in as an anchor on all the programs when needed.
