Anthony Mackie will be picking up the shield as the next Captain America.

He is set to star in Marvel’s Captain America 4, according to reports by Variety.

While details have been sparse about the upcoming superhero film, sources have confirmed that The Falcon and Winter Soldier actor will star as Captain America in what is sure to be another Marvel blockbuster.

Continuing the story arc of his character since the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Mackie has played Sam Walton Falcon in six Marvel films beginning with Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

In an interview earlier this year, Mackie spoke about the season finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and his possible return in the fourth installment of the Captain America franchise.

"I literally found out yesterday in a grocery store,” Mackie recalled. “The checkout guy named Dwayne, a cool cat, he's like, 'Yo, man. Is this real?!' I'm like, 'I haven't heard anything.' That's what I love about working for Marvel. They call you, they're like, 'Come to L.A. We wanna tell you what's going on.' So, I'm excited to see what happens, but I haven't heard anything."

Although it's not clear if there will be a second season of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney +, Mackie's big-screen role as the successor of Steve Rogers is definitely in the works.

As it’s being reported, Captain America 4 is being written by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier head writer and creator Malcolm Spellman, as well as staff writer Dalan Musson.

According to sources, Chris Evans, who played Captain America in all of the previous Marvel films, may have a role in the newest movie

A director hasn’t yet been set for Mackie’s film.
