Tiger Woods, 43, won his fifth Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club on Sunday, and prominent Black figures quickly took to social media to celebrate the tremendous victory.
“Congratulations, Tiger! To come back and win the Masters after all the highs and lows is a testament to excellence, grit, and determination,” former president Barack Obama wrote on Twitter to congratulate the legendary golfer.
The feat was impressive because it was Woods’ first major win since 2008 when he took home first place in the U.S. Open. According to ESPN, He previously won the Masters in 1997, 2000, 2001 and 2005.
“I am literally in tears watching @TigerWoods this is Greatness like no other,” Serena Williams tweeted. “Knowing all you have been through physically to come back and do what you just did today? Wow Congrats a million times! I am so inspired thank you buddy.”
The highs and lows of the 43-year-old's career were the focal points of a Nike commercial, which dropped just minutes after the golfer’s Sunday win. The message of the campaign, “Never stop chasing your dream.”
Users are social media were also taken aback by the heartwarming embrace between Woods and his son, Charlie. It took place in the same spot where the golfer hugged his father after his first Masters win in 1997.
