BET+ has greenlit Kingdom Business, a music-driven drama executive produced by DeVon Franklin, CEO of Franklin Entertainment, Holly Carter, the founder of Relevé Entertainment, and the multi-Grammy award winner Kirk Franklin, who also serves as the CEO of Fo Yo Soul Entertainment .

Written by John Sakmar and Kerry Lenhart, who co-created the Mr. & Mrs. Smith series, Kingdom Business was originally set for development at NBC during the 2019-20 season but has been picked up by BET’s streaming service.

The eight-episode series is an exploration of “the gospel music industry through the lenses of family, faith, love, and the redemptive power of music.” The drama chronicles the lives of the characters Denita Jordan, the Queen of Gospel, and her ex-producer/songwriter/paramour, Caesar, who had a pivotal role in her successful career. Jordan—who runs a megachurch and in-house record label—is the keeper of her family's secrets. Another woman Rebel, a former exotic dancer, comes for Jordan's crown as she moves forward to challenge gospel music’s conventions.

Expect soul-searching riffs as Kirk Franklin also serves as the show’s executive music producer.
