Solange, OutKast, Nas and Pharrell Bring Out Surprises at Coachella

Weekend one of the popular Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival just came to a close, and it was a pretty exciting experience for Black performers. OutKast finally reunited and treated their audience to more weird, outer-spacey artists when they brought out Janelle Monáe and Future. Pharrell (and that damn hat, of course) sprinkled in some Snoop, Nelly, Busta Rhymes, Puff Daddy, plus more.

Speaking of Puff, he joined rap veteran Nas onstage to perform their classic collabo “Hate Me Now.” And Mr. Jones gave hip-hop heads even more reason to walk away cheesing when he invited his now good friend/ex-enemy Jay Z out to relive a few classic tracks. Jay wasn’t the only Carter who popped out for a cameo though. His wife Beyoncé joined her little sister for a cutesy dance segment to Solange’s “Losing You.” King Bey didn’t perform any of her own material, but I’m sure all the dudes still got a thrill watching her shake it in that tiny skirt. All in all, it was a great weekend in the Colorado desert for Black musicians.

Drake Makes Prom Dream Come True for Houston Teen with Brain Cancer

Drake may be known for being a sensitive rapper, but today I’m gonna do away with the mean super-softee jokes, because Rihanna’s boo has shown just how compassionate he really is. The rapper took a special trip to Houston Saturday for a surprise visit to one of his biggest fans: a young girl named Kennedy Brown who suffers from brain cancer. It had been her dearest dream to meet with Drizzy, so the kids at Kennedy’s school started a #drakeforken trend on Twitter in hopes to catch the rap star’s attention and do something special for their friend. Well, the hashtag blew up, and next thing you know, Mr. Aubrey Graham is at little Ms. Brown’s doorstep. He deemed the time spent with Ken an “incredible day” and posted several photos with a beaming Kennedy and her family to his Instagram page. (Aww! Tear.) Good job, Aubrey, good job.

Meek Mill Suing His Hometown Over Drug Bust

Back in 2012, Meek Mill was cuffed in Philly for suspicion of marijuana possession, but it turned out that the young rap boss really didn’t have that sticky. (At least not that night.) Besides wasted time, Meek says the wrongful arrest cost him some big bucks, including $22K on a cancelled private jet flight and a $39,000 fee for missing a scheduled appearance in Atlanta. The MMG MC also says the jail time screwed up a $2 million deal with Puma, where he ended up settling for less than half that amount due to bad press surrounding the incident. Last year, he filed suit against the Philadelphia police department for violating his civil rights and whatnot, but now he’s coming at the city for justice. (Levels.) Good luck and amen.
