Kendrick Lamar Pays Homage to Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off”

Kendrick Lamar let us all know that he loves himself on his latest single “i,” but the Compton MC has love for Taylor Swift too. After T-Swift revealed that she knows “Backstreet Freestyle” word-for-word in Rolling Stone, K Dot repaid the compliment by paying homage to her current hater-flinging single, “Shake It Off,” with his own impromptu cover. “Haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate,” he sung in a sitdown with The Fader.

“I enjoy great music outside of my own music all the time, so I definitely can see where she’s coming from when she says that she listens to [‘Backstreet Freestyle’],” Kendrick says. “It’s a great thing for her to acknowledge that and put that good energy out into the world like that.” Hopefully the anticipated successor to Kendrick’s classic LP good kid, m.A.A.d. city similarly follows the lead of Taylor Swift’s 1989 album, which has officially sold a whopping 1.287 million first-week copies.

Mary J. Blige may have kissed drama goodbye over a decade ago, but it hasn’t evaded the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul’s father. According to the Battle Creek Enquirer, Cheryl White will also serve five years of probation and have to cough up more than $17,000 for Thomas Blige’s nursing services after being found guilty of attacking him with a knife after he caught her slashing his tires.
