Nicki Minaj, The Weeknd And Lil Wayne To Headline Billboard Hot 100 Music Festival
Who doesn’t have a music festival these days? Billboard is one of the latest to announce its own musical affair with the Hot 100 Music Festival. The inaugural fest is slated to take place August 22-23 at Jones Beach Theater in New York City, featuring over 40 artists. Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne and The Weeknd are among the headliners; they’re joined by the likes of Fetty Wap, Natalie La Rose, Santigold and iLoveMakonnen.
And now, some boilerplate promo from one of the suits behind the concert: “The Hot 100 Music Festival will be one of those truly memorable summer concert events,” says Live Nation President and CEO Michael Rapino. “We are very excited to bring fans some of summer 2015’s chart toppers in a venue that will showcase the best these artists have to offer.” Cool. Tickets go on sale Thursday (July 16) at 10 a.m.
Rihanna Recruits Timbaland to Help With R8 Album
Rihanna’s upcoming album R8 has been a journey. Feeler records have been hit-or-miss, each song greatly varying sonically from the previous. But it seems Rih is hunkering down and calling in another big gun to bring her eighth album home: Timbaland. The megastar who went topless for the umpteenth time in her “BBHMM” video was spotted arriving at Timbo’s studio last Wednesday (July 8) at 2 a.m. She and the super producer previously cooked up “Rehab” for Good Girl Gone Bad in 2007. Let’s hope the duo can concoct some new magic together.
Inspectah Deck Complains About Wu-Tang: “We’ve Got a Good Team With a Bad Coach”
Wu-Tang Clan may be The Beatles of hip-hop, but at least one member of the Shaolin set feels business moves are holding the crew back. Inspectah Deck sat down with Vlad TV to speak about the state of the Wu-nion, pointing at management as a hindrance. “We’re lost business structure-wise,” he said. “If we did have certain structures, an artist like me who doesn’t have a hit single on the airwaves would still be able to capitalize and take advantage of the success of the whole. That’s what a good management or business structure is going to do… We’ve got a good team with a bad coach.” Yikes. Welp, another day, another disgruntled Wu-Tang member. When no one is complaining, well, that’s when we’ll start to get worried.
