Q-Tip Leads Manhattan Protests of Ferguson’s Grand Jury Decision
Hearts have been broken nationwide following yesterday’s announcement of a grand jury’s decision not to indict Darren Wilson, the Ferguson police officer who shot and killed unarmed teenager Michael Brown in August. But anger, frustration and determination have powered demonstrations everywhere from St. Louis to San Francisco to New York City. MC/producer Q-Tip was on hand in Times Square last night, standing with protesters hungry for justice with chants of “hands up, don’t shoot.” He tweeted throughout the tense rally: “No value for Black life. But they extrapolate our magic , sweat, our voice our fire… And leave us stripped of our right to exist,” adding that the crowd stopped Manhattan traffic while helicopters hovered overhead.
Bill Cosby’s Biographer Regrets Omitting Sexual Abuse Claims
In the midst of the 2014 Bill Cosby sexual abuse witch hunt, author Mark Whitaker’s recent book Cosby: His Life and Times possesses a gaping hole of ozone layer proportions. The biography completely ignores the rape claims that have plagued the 77-year-old actor/comedian for over a decade and recently come to a head. After being critiqued by The New York Times’s David Carr, Whitaker admitted he should’ve included the allegations in his book.
“I was wrong to not deal with the sexual assault charges against Cosby and pursue them more aggressively,” Whitaker tweeted, adding that he’s been “following new developments and will address them at the appropriate time. If true, the stories are shocking and horrible.” Cosby: His Life and Times has been questioned for its omission of the allegations—including the 2006 out-of-court settlement with accuser Andrea Constand—since it was published in September.
Pharrell Stars in Chanel Mini Movie, Reincarnation
Pharrell Williams has been a fashion trailblazer since he was rocking trucker hats at the turn of the century (remember those?). His latest sartorial statement turns back the clock much further. The 41-year-old producer/artist will star in an upcoming Chanel short film titled Reincarnation, alongside Cara Delevingne, with Karl Lagerfeld directing. The visual will depict a pivotal moment in the couture brand’s history, when founder Coco Chanel was inspired to create the iconic Chanel jacket after observing the uniform of an elevator operator in an Austrian hotel back in 1954. Pharrell plays the elevator operator and Franz Joseph I, Emperor of Austria, while Delevingne acts as his wife, Empress Elisabeth “Sisi” of Austria. Reincarnation debuts on December 1, on chanel.com.
