Rosario Dawson Cast in Netflix Superhero Series Daredevil
Comic-book geeks have another beautiful Black character at which to marvel. This weekend’s NY Comic Con revealed that Rosario Dawson will play Claire Temple (b.k.a. the Night Nurse) in Daredevil, the first of five original series coming to Netflix via a partnership with Marvel. Dawson’s warm character tends to superhero wounds both physical and emotional, and historically has ties to another hero—Luke Cage—who has his own future Netflix series already green-lit, suggesting we might be seeing quite a bit of Rosario in the franchise. It’s not the first time the 35-year-old actress takes on the comic book genre; the New York native previously starred in two Sin City films. While she likely won’t be kicking tail in this one, her human heart just might prove tenderness is a superpower in itself.
Big Sean Confirms Kanye West Feature On His Next Album
Big Sean got a taste of sophomore jinx when his second album, Hall of Fame, didn’t quite live up to its title or predecessor. But the Detroit MC insists his third studio project will buck the downward trend with a “more intense” feel. “The raps are at a high level,” says the 26-year-old spitter, who insists that mentor Kanye West will make an appearance. “[It’s] probably a little bit darker than the last one.” He’s already off to an impressive start with last month’s four-song freebie release, which most notably features the ex-shade anthem “I Don’t F*ck with You.” Let’s just hope we don’t feel the same way about Sean’s next LP, which he says will drop either late this year or early 2015.
Childish Gambino Visits Deep Space in Martian Movie Role
Donald Glover hasn’t completely abandoned Hollywood. The former Community star, who’s been moonlighting as rapper Childish Gambino, is headed to the big screen via director Ridley Scott’s upcoming film, The Martian. Glover will play a NASA employee in the lost-in-space odyssey, which stars Matt Damon and Kristen Wiig. There’s no word on whether his Gambino persona will drop space bars on the soundtrack.
