Backlash over Blackface use in South Korean Show

…because wearing blackface is not now nor will it ever be okay… OK.

So you want to be a comedian, huh? Great, go after your desire, but doing so at the expense of your stereotypical interpretation of another culture just isn’t going to fly – whether you’re doing it for a fake TV show or in real-life pursuits.

South Korean broadcaster, SBS is now getting hit with darts of social backlash after airing a series where the main character went the blackface route in order to prove to her parents that she’d make a successful comedian, Buzzfeed reports.

Errr…let’s pump the breaks right there and take another look at her gear. Yep, she went full body with it. Daggone shame.

And it gets worse. Sadly, that is possible in this case. The show ends with the actress performing a dance number to “The Circle of Life” from The Lion King. The Lion King is set in Africa. Subliminal punch or nah?

The entire bit is filled with racial insults and people are heated about it – rightfully so, of course.
