According to Vanity Fair, the six-year-old Blue became an art collector that night. During the gala’s live auction, Blue bid $17,000 on an acrylic painting of a young Sidney Poitier. Star Jones, who led the sale joked that Blue was participating because her parents have taught her the importance of owning art as an African-American. The bidding went on for a short while when the price increased Blue made another bid for $19,000. Her father JAY-Z tried to stop her from bidding. Ultimately, Blue lost out on the painting to Tyler Perry who dished out $20,000 for the piece.
