OWN just dropped the second trailer for the sophomore season of Queen Sugar, and it’s riveting. The Bordelons return, and this time they must deal with their past actions while trying to keep their late father’s legacy alive. Set in Saint Josephine, Louisiana, Queen Sugar follows the Bordelon siblings as they try to rebuild their relationships with one another. Charley (Dawn-Lyen Gardner) is trying to forge ahead despite the demise of her marriage. This season she sets out to be the first Black women to own a sugar mill in Louisiana. Meanwhile, her sister Nova (Rutina Wesley) must reconcile her role as a Black Lives Matter activist while dealing with her intimate relationships. Finally, Ralph Angel (Kofi Siroboe) must decide how to come to terms with the contents of his father’s revised will while raising his young son and trying to reconcile with his son’s mother.
While the Bordelon siblings deal with the fallout of their choices, their Aunt Violet (Tina Lifford) holds them all together while attempting to reconnect with her love Hollywood (Omar J. Dorsey). Also, it looks like Micah (Nicholas L. Ashe), Charley’s 16-year old son will have more of a voice this season. Check out the trailer below.
For the second season, the Ava DuVernay helmed series will boast a team of all-female directors including the legendary Julie Dash. Kat Chandler, DeMane Davis, Cheryl Dune, Aurora Guerrero and Amanda Marsalis will also direct.
The 16-episode second season of Queen Sugar will premiere with a two-night event, launching on June 20 and June 21, at 10 PM ET.
