She’s quirky, full of life and carefree as hell…or she could just be indulging in 8 a.m trips to the club as an emotional coping mechanism.
That’s the hook when it comes to Charlie – the central character in Bobby Huntley’s indie film, The Magnificent Life of Charlie.
Described as a passion project for the Atlanta-based writer/director, the flick stars Nikki Lashae, Lailaa Brooking, Ashley S. Evans and Kortnee Price (Charlie), and explores the interpersonal and complex relationships between Black women.
Check out the synopsis and trailer below:
“After her sister Brandy’s untimely death, everyone is taken aback by Charlie’s unorthodox (and seemingly chipper) approach to her grieving process. Follow Charlie and her friends Kayla and Keturah as they go along for a wild, hilariously exhilarating and bittersweet ride – which will surely be the craziest day of Charlie’s life.”
Filmed over a six-week period in and around Atlanta, Huntley along with co-writer and producer Nikki Wade created the story to encourage dialogue relating to the typical media portrayals of Black women.
The Magnificent Life of Charlie is planned to hit the film festival circuit soon. Follow the film on Facebook for more updates and information.
