The ink just dried on the paperwork!

Academy Award winner, Mahershala Ali, is officially headed to HBO for the third season of the fan-favorite series, True Detective. The serial drama that focuses on conspiracy, betrayal and bizarre murders will return with a new director at the helm.

Deadline is reporting that HBO’s President of Programming, Casey Bloys, confirmed the news at the network’s summer Television Critics Association presentation.

“They are terrific. I was very impressed and excited. We are talking to directors, and when we have a director we want to hire, it will be a go,” Bloys said of the five scripts he’s read thus far.

Last summer, Bloys discussed the possibility of True Detective‘s return.

“It is not dead. I talked to Nic [Pizzolatto] about it, and both Nic and HBO are open to another season. I don’t think Nic has a take and he’s working on some other projects. We’re open to somebody else writing it and Nic supervising it. It’s a valuable franchise; it’s not dead, we just don’t have a take for a third season yet,” he told Entertainment Weekly.

Ali confirmed the exciting news on his Instagram account.

As we await a release date for True Detective, you can expect to see Ali in several more projects this year through 2019 including, Triple Frontier and Alita: Battle Angel.

From the looks of his IMDB, he’s a very busy man.
