CoverGirl cosmetics has embraced women of color for years, and while their shade range can be a bit lacking, there’s no shortage of representation on their roster. Soon after naming beauties such as Issa Rae and Ayesha Curry CoverGirls, the brand signed model Amy Deanna as their first representative with vitiligo.

Vitiligo is a skin condition that affects skin pigmentation. In a new ad for their new TruBlend Liquid Makeup, the stunner asks, “Why try to blend in, when you can choose to stand out?”

Deanna has been embracing her unique beauty for years, and she hopes to help others who may have been ostracized frothier looks to feel beautiful, inside and out.

“Vitiligo awareness is something that is very important to me,” she told Refinery29. “Being given a platform to do so means so much. At the end of the day I am just like everyone else, I just happen to have spots. It’s a part of my identity, but it doesn’t define who I am. For there to be so many of us and so little representation, it’s truly disheartening. I work with CoverGirl; I’m a black woman; I have vitiligo. That is empowering.”
